That's not enough resistance, you need a new heating element. Word to the wise...replace the defrost thermostat while you're in there.

The freezer is cold, but the fridge wasn't. I took the back panel of the freezer off and there was ice on the evaporator coils. I defrosted the coils to remove the ice, and the fridge got cold. I understand that the problem may be the defrost timer, or the t'stat. Couldn't it also be the defrost heater (at the evaporator coils? I did a short test by turning the defrost timer until the compressor shut off and checking for heat at the evaporator coils (I can't see the heater from the access at t

I took the panels off in the feezer and seen the temp sensor. so I need to know how to get to the board and also does the heating element use 120vac on both legs to heat or is it 120vac on one leg and the board sends a ground on the other? also the temp sensor o

My GE TFX26GRDA side-by-side refrigerator periodically freezes up the coils so completely that no air circulates and the fresh food compartment gets WAY too warm. It does this over a period of anywhere between 4-12 months and has been happening since the unit was new. I just finished defrosting the coils with a hair dryer yet again. The defrost thermostat gave a resistance reading of about .5 ohm while frozen in ice; that is supposed to be normal. The heater coil works at least part of the time

GE MODEL GS-L25JFTBS, two years old. upper 2/3 of evap coil not clearing of frost. ice build up occurs over several weeks blocking air flow, causing fridge side to run too warm, also uper freezer compartment, too warm. must defrost with heat gun. defrost heater checks good, limit thermostat to heater is ok. just seems it does not defrost long enough to completely melt the ice, all the way to the top of evap coil. is this a computer issue, or is the upper temp sensor bad?

Freezer coils were a block of ice! Remover rear freezer panel, defrosted with heat gun. Freezer temp was set too high. Could this cause the icing? Shouldn't the defrost cycle have handled it? How do you test the defrost function? There is a timer somewhere. Also an actual heater?

An improperly sealing door gasket can cause that. Outside air will circulate past the coils and humidity in the air will condense and freeze there. My Kenmore upright refrigerator-freezer, Model 55771, leaks water ocassionally out the left hand lower front corner of the freezer compartment as you face the doors. I already changed out the heating coils in the back of the freezer compartment that deice the cooling coils. GE TBX18SKE REFRIGERATOR IS AROUND 55F AND THE FREEZER IS AROUND 22F. I took the heating tube out and did a continuity test, tested good, visually it looks great. Refrig I have a side by side and the freezer keeps defrosting and leaving water at the bottom. The water then freezes leaving a sheet of ice at the bottom. I have seen the heating coil at the bottom back wall go on and cause this melting process. Question: Is there a timer/temp element that I need to look at? My impression is that the defrost cycle is coming on too often or staying on too long. Any ideas? Jerry
